All or our vanes have seen time in the field. They have been cleaned, refurbished, and verified perfectly functional. Part of the refurbishment process is preventing the most common failure mode of the 200P: oxidation of the fine wires at the solder connection with the internal terminals. These units have Vaseline slathered on these internal connections so that you do not experience this failure mode.
Each unit includes cotter pin, and terminal nuts. For no additional charge, on request, we will include the best boot(s) we have remaining. These have obviously seen previous use, but they'll protect your terminals and are better than nothing. If you need boot(s), please leave "note to seller." Better yet, immediately after sale, please "contact seller" so that your note is not overlooked.
In addition to refurbished units, we also offer a
"Housing Damaged"
unit. After the vane was wired up and getting loaded into the van, our office puppy had a few moments alone with it and started chewing on it. She put superficial marks on the tail and managed to puncture the housing. Since the vane was already wired up and still working, it went into the field and worked flawlessly until the end of the contract. On recovering the unit, we completely sealed the internal terminals, assembled the unit, then injected sealant into the puncture. Please see photo documentation for this unit. The housing is now water-tight as well as the internal wiring impervious to water. Thus, the vane is fully functional and weather-proof. However, given the damage to the housing, we offer this vane at a steep discount.
Finally, we offer a "
200P Knockoff
" produced by UMass for large scale wind energy assessment. The objective was to reduce the cost while maintaining the reliability of the 200P. This included a lower cost metal than stainless steel for the weighted nose. Thus, the nose weathers to a brown or green patina. Other than a nose that weathers like decorative vane, UMass succeeded in their objective.

The 200P Wind Vane is one of the most widely used wind direction sensors in wind, solar, and meteorological applications worldwide.
Constructed of thermoplastic and stainless steel components, the 200P resists corrosion and features a high strength-to-weight ratio. The 200P is directly connected to a precision conductive plastic potentiometer located in the main body. When a constant DC excitation voltage is applied to the potentiometer, it produces an analog voltage output directly proportional to the wind direction.
