    Description

Up for sale is a fine antique Museum De-accession, Native American Penobscot Root War and Ceremonial Club, circa the Mid 1800's from Penobscot Indian Island, Maine.  Recently purchased from a major auction house museum De-accession sale, it features a great patina consistent with age and use while it has a newly replaced leather hanging strap at the end.  It is in excellent condition with no major defects noted.  There are natural areas of wear, chips, and cracking in the wood as shown in the photos but it is in overall outstanding condition for the age.  It does have an identification written on it "Penobscot Indian Island, Maine", probably by the museum's curator as part of the collection for display.  It measures approximately 31 1/2" long x 7" wide at the base.  An outstanding example for any collection or museum acquisition.  The provenance/ownership history is as follows.  It was evaluated and sold by a major auction house as part of a multi-museum collection from various museums in Western and Central Pennsylvania including some items from the City of Harrisburg, PA.   I do not know which particular museum it came from but it is one of two I purchased at the same sale.
