    Description:
    This Natsume is
made by a top notch makie artist in Kyoto using highest quality materials, e.g. gold, wood and Japanese lacquer.
The artisan is Yuhdoh (Ikuo) Shimode (下
    出 (行雄) 祐堂
), who was born, worked and passed away in Kyoto.
Yuhdoh is his name as an artist. Ikuo is his real name.
His sign is seen on the back of the lid of the wooden box (photograph #11).
He was honored as "Contemporary Master Craftsman" by the Japan government.
His father and son is also known as a prominent makie artist.
The design is "Willow and Swallow". You must have often seen the similar design before, because it is very popular in tea ceremony.
However, if you compare this particular natsume with other similar ones, you would recognize obvious differences in terms of the quality of work. Besides, the inside and the bottom of this natsume is covered by the highest quality Nashiji (a kind of makie using many different kinds (colors) of gold), which is used to only highest quality (expensive) items.
It is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or marks. White (shining) parts on photographs are reflection of lightening i.e. not an issue, that happens because the surface of Japanese lacquerware is extremely smooth like a miller.
